Request - Mentoring

Description: Hello! Please visit my personal translation website I recently published: trevtranslation.com

I am very interested in the proz.com mentoring program and would like to find a mentor for guidance in beginning my career. My source language is German and my target language is English. I am a native English speaker with extensive in-country and academic experience in German. After graduating High School one year early, I traveled to Germany to attend the Goetheschule Gymnasium in Einbeck, Niedersachsen. After returning to the U.S., I completed a dual major Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and German with Commercial Emphasis. My education as well as my work experience has given me a heavy exposure to both German and English commercial language. However, aside from a 72 page translation project during undergraduate studies, I have no experience in professional translation.

I am offering my skills, time, and effort to help my mentor in their own translation projects. In return, I would gladly accept your guidance, recommendation, testimonial, and perhaps even inexpensive pay. My limited experience makes it difficult to find work, since paying customers understandably expect perfect translations from proven professionals. It seems to make sense to translate text that will be proofread before given to customers. Of course, I would love any feedback my mentor could give and would want to see any corrections made to my own translations.

My availability is currently open.
I would devote up to 20 hours of solid translation, direct communication, and other activities directly involving the mentor each week.
I would estimate this to be currently up to 4,000 words each week.

I would be willing to serve as an apprentice for up to 6 months, although I still find value in relationships that may last only one project.
