In the course of translating a Spanish book into English, I have portions quoting the poetry of al-Mutannabi and ibn Marwan (the Andalusi). I'm not too comfortable with the Spanish version and would like to know how English translators deal with these authors, but can't find many resources. Any help appreciated. I'd gladly buy a bilingual (AR-EN) anthology, as well, if it exists.

I have not read it myself, but it looks like it might contain some material that may be of use to you.

I just ordered it. I've read Arberry's translations before and he does have a way of making things accessible.
Besides, I've leafed through first few pages and it looks just like what the doctor ordered. Even granting the verses I'm looking for aren't there, there's enough information to "counterfeit" a rendition

I wish I could research the issue in Arabic further but my AR isn't up to it. Lack of practice doesn't help. ▲ Collapse
