Hi, everyone!
This is Dee who is a novice to this Proz.com. My subject and request may not suitable to this board but please help me with my assignment to make a presentation.
I'm a freelance translator E=> K and a student of a cyber university, also.
I need to make a presentation about 10 minutes with any subject I choose, so I choose "Living as a Translator."

In my case,
Pros
Don't need to be bothered by hard communiting.
No need to endure rumors around me!
I can arrange my own schedule! time is mine!
I can be my own boss! this is the most important thing.
Always enjoy home made meal.
Get paid on the job I like, how much I worked. It's an honest job!
I can say no when I don't want to do it.
Cons
Feelings that I'm disconnected with the world. Sometimes days are passing w... See more In my case,

Cons
Feelings that I'm disconnected with the world. Sometimes days are passing without a word.
Irregular schedule prevents me to hanging out with people in regular schedule.
Unstable future. I don't know until when I can work or I may can get enough for next month.
Funny things.
Few years ago, I was quite busy since I was an in-house translator and also working as a freelance translator. Mostly, there's no over time work in that company. But that week, I need to work in a studio to do a subtitling job until midnight.
So, my freelance job was filed up and up, and when it comes the weekend, I need to work during that whole weekend.
So, I prepared some drinks like tomato juice, rice beverage and others something good for health and no need to chew. With five packs of cigarette. hahaha.
Only except when nature calls me, I worked and worked again during whole 48 hours and finally can finish the job. After that, I realized I consumed 6 bottles of drinks (1.5 liter) and 3 packs of cigarette.
I thought I might be a crazy. But after that, I was thinking that "Wow, I still want to work more!"
Now, I can't work like that anymore, especially it's been almost 200 days without smoking.

Pros:
I can work in my pijamas.
I can cook while I am working. (I mean, my pot/oven/stove/rice cooker can cook while I am working and I only need to check how my meal is progressing from time to time.)
Higher pay per hour than ordinary office work.

Pros:
I can work in my pijamas.
I can cook while I am working. (I mean, my pot/oven/stove/rice cooker can cook while I am working and I only need to check how my meal is progressing from time to time.)
Higher pay per hour than ordinary office work.
I can gain quite useful knowledge from work without paying tuition. (For example, how to invest wisely, interesting travel spots of a country I may visit in future, how to fit a door frame to a door opening, how to save the environment, how to perform a surgery with the latest anesthetic vaporizer, lol.)
Cons:
The feeling that you are the ultimate non-specialist. People do not respect you just because you speak and write multiple languages. Some clients see you as an assistant/secretary/some lower being with exceptional linguistic talents, and you kind of agree, because your clients have so much more knowledge about the subject matter.
You feel lonely and isolated from the rest of the world.
Lower pay per hour than a top sales person. (In other words, if you are talented in sales, go pursue that path, rather than becoming a translator.)

Pros:
1. I can work and travel at the same time. There are few other jobs that permit you to travel/move and work at the same time. Not being pinned down to one geographical location means freedom.
2. The job is rarely monotonous.
3. You're your own boss and you can arrange your schedule as you wish.
Cons:
1. No guarantee of work being available.
