But if I take what you just said and plug it into Google Translate, this is what I get ... I personally think that the reason is the ability to directly question the underlying causes of the problem was related to attitude

On second thought, Google Translate has indeed come a long way in the English-to-Chinese direction of translation. It does add substantial value in the sense of being able to spit out more or less most of the Chinese terms needed for a piece of translation. It seems like all that's left for the translator to do is to ensure that the terms are arranged in the correct order that reflects the true meaning of the English original, in addition to coming up with some terms that were inco... 乍一看,句子确实不怎么改就能用,但是,仔细一看,每个句子都需要调,调整所用时间和自己翻译差不多,有时你会感到改它的翻译备受折磨。 有时,你需要在改与不改之间折磨,折磨得时间你自己早就翻译完了。 有时你会被它误导。比如,酒店的PODIUM它会给你翻译成平台,稍微不注意就被它混过去了。 有时,微小的地方不恰当,你可能看几遍也看不出来。比如“一个套房”,一个停车位被翻译为“一个停车场”等等。 做了600字,看了4遍才把不恰当的改彻底。 相比之下,改别人手工翻译的稿,即使再差,也比改GOOGLE TRANSLATE的译文省时间。

It takes about what? ~5 seconds to cut-and-paste a large segment of text into the window. And voila! it spits out a result instantly. If nothing else, you can put it aside just for reference. Who knows? It could prompt you for some terminology like a thesaurus does. | | |

It takes about what? ~5 seconds to cut-and-paste a large segment of text into the window. And voila! it spits out a result instantly. If nothing else, you can put it aside just for reference. Who knows? It could prompt you for some terminology like a thesaurus does. 有一次我翻译了几千个单词的词汇表,用了不到一小时。感觉硬科学的东西它能翻译好,比如ANATOMICAL TERMS, 病名,检验项目等,你想让它错都错不了,但人文的东西, 软的东西, 管理的东西, 它几乎就无法翻译正确,比如MEDICARE里的用语, 基本上它不会翻。

[Edited at 2014-02-17 14:17 GMT] 有些很差的译稿,明显就是在 Google 翻译基础上修改后交差的。但是,修改这种译稿,未必比自己用 Google 重新翻译后再修改会省时间,因为你得花时间琢磨如何保留一些原译稿中还可以保留的东西。
