所谓专业术语的统一或绝对统一,也是太容易被高估了。
我也不知道为什么在译者中,几乎都那么异口同声的呐喊要统一。其实是很难做到的。not feasible and not even desirable in many cases.

One obvious problem is the writer of the source text usualy don't agree with your high valuation of "the consistent use of terminology." They just like to change.

他们其实还是得遵循两岸的语言习惯和规范。


电脑用词是一组专家定的,几乎所有词汇都是发明的,而不是原有的。这些专家定了以后,汉化的WONDOW以及慢慢的其他软件也都遵循了。也就是说,简体和繁体电脑用语,都是从0开始,编制的一套用语。我的意思是,既然是要制造一套词汇,为什么不能两地用一样的说法?

(其实英文的电脑用词也是制造出来的,比如MENU, 原来哪有这个意思啊? 不是原有的,所以不存在尊重原有的用法这件事。)


也就是说,当时不存在可以一起坐下来共同协商研讨的客观条件。

翻譯是創意無限的行業,百人百譯,由用者選擇,去蕪存菁,剩下來的是經過自然淘汰的生還者。兩岸三地電腦名詞翻譯有共通,也有分歧,不足為奇。

微軟公司的那幫人,當初在搞本地化的時候,不會不曉得简体中文和繁體中文的差異 不致於 使二者成為兩種不同語言。我估計,他們故意不惜花雙倍成本,找兩批人做了不同的術語表,又用不同的兩批人翻譯出來简体和繁體的文本。成功地在 IT 領域創造了差異非常大的简体中文和繁體中文。我懷疑這裡面會不會有政治企圖?甚至背後就是米國政府支持這樣整的?
隨著兩岸的交流增加,今後的趨勢是互相借鑒,但完全統一是不大可能的。我也不希望兩岸統一 IT 術語。我還指望著利用這種差異多掙一些譯費呢。

I doubt if there's any conspiracy by MSFT or the US government. They have better things to do.

如果根据这个逻辑,网上成千上万针对大中华及东南亚地区 Greater China and Southeast Asia Region 商业客户的多种语言公司网页,都在围攻某些国家吗?

另外,欧洲大陆的国家有超过 15 种语言,从事跨國商业的公司网站都在提供不同语言界面,方便客户使用。难道他们都在暗中互相攻讦吗?

语言是有地区性差异的。 不用说中国大陆和台湾地区,就是北京和广州,语言也有不少的差别,电脑的术语也一样的。
