Hello Everybody, I'm tryng to see if it possible to save a bilingual file sdlxliff produced by Trados Studio 2009 into a file xlf. Any suggestion? Infinitively grateful.
No converter, AFAIK | Apr 5, 2011 |
Hello Carla, as a general rule, you can export SDLXLIFF to the same format from which it was created. In addition to that, you can use SDLXLIFF Converter to generate bilingual Word and Excel files. But as far as I know, there is no SDLXLIFF > XLF converter.
XLF > SDLXLIFF > XLF conversion | Apr 5, 2011 |
IN this case the source file was XLF. So how can I convert it back XLF > SDLXLIFF > XLF in Trados 2009? Thank you so much.
Finalize or Save target as... | Apr 5, 2011 |
Then simply use the "Finalize" batch task or open the document in the Editor, press SHIFT+F12 and select the target file location. That's it. As with any other file type.

Thank you so much Stanislav. I tried and it gives me an error message saying that it could not find the path (which of course it exists). So it doens't let me save it as and XLF.

Actually it just worked. Thank you so much Stanislav. You saved me!
Yes, it is possible to convert .sdlxliff into .xlf | Apr 5, 2011 |
Hi Carla, The application Swordfish does allow conversion of an .sdlxliff file into an .xlf file. I have used the trial version to do so and it works to perfection. Just search for Swordfish on Google and you are bound to find it. Kind Regards Alex

Thank you Alex for the tip. I will try it right away!

Just some clarification | Apr 6, 2011 |
Hi, The process Stanislav advised when you start with an xlf as source is the correct one here. You can of course use another tool to convert the native bilingual xliff file in Studio to an xlf but if you do it in this scenario it is possible that the file you return to your client will not be the one they need for their particular application. Might be an interesting exercise but I would advise caution. Regards Paul
