Hello,

I have created a project in Studio 2014, which consists (among others) of a large .doc file. The Studio bilingual file contains many tags that seem unnecessary when looking at the source. I activated the formatting marks in Word, but saw no reason for the many tags. Styles are also simple. Most tags are .

Can I get rid of the unnecessary (if they are really unnecessary) tags without damaging the integrity of the document and the original formatting?

TransTools Mar 4, 2015

Hello,

Have you tried TransTools? http://www.translatortools.net/about.html

With that you can safely get rid of the tags.

Font? Mar 4, 2015

I find excessive tags is often related to the font of the source document, especially if it contains a lot accents or diacritics. Sometimes, if I have the liberty, I will select all of the source document and change the font to another one close to the original, and most of the tags disappear. That's not always possible, depending on the nature of the job.

I found a solution Mar 5, 2015

Thank you all for your suggestions. Transtool did not help much in this case and changing the font either. What I did was to save the source file as .docx (with the option "Maintain compatibility with previous Word versions"). I then imported it to Trados and now the amount of tags is now significantly smaller.
