This new version has an unlimited number of buttons and is also arguably more user-friendly than the previous one.

I've tried it out and can certainly give it the thumbs up.

Me too. Jul 28, 2015

I have tested the software as well and I do recommend it. IWS 3 was great; IWS 5 is still better.

Group limit removed Jul 28, 2015

The best thing for me is the removal of the limit to five groups. I can now start creating groups for my specialist subjects, in addition to the groups I have for my different source languages.

Licences Dec 7, 2015

You can use IWS 5 free for two months. Then you need a licence - they come three at a time (i.e. for up to 3 computers - they're not transferable). A "pack of 3" costs 25, 40 or 50 euro for 1, 2 or three years (+ VAT in some cases). Some members of associations including AITI, ITI and MET can have a discount - I haven't tried to find out what the discount is.

License of the Third Kind Dec 8, 2015

3 PC*years, e. g. 1 PC and 3 years or 3 PCs & 1 year and so on. That's ok.
But "not transferable" means: "Please buy a new license if you (have to) buy a new PC".

I'm not sure whether the license remains valid if the hard disk fails or is replaced by a larger one resp an SSD.

Fortunately I have my own Multifultor (--> my profile).

A pack of three licences means you get three licences Dec 8, 2015

No, you always get three licences, which have to be used on three different PCs. What changes is the duration (1, 2 or 3 years).

I'm not sure whether the license remains valid if the hard disk fails or is replaced by a larger one resp an SSD.

If you change your PC or any of its main hardware components very frequently or if you are worried about hard disk failure, I suggest you buy the shortest licence (1 year).
If you do have a major PC failure, write to me. I can be very understanding

Members of associations that have deals get a 20% discount on list price.

Version 3 (the "old freeware version") is still available:

That's right, and it will continue to be freeware.

What am I missing? Dec 8, 2015

Before: Copy, click on browser icon, click on where you want to search, *paste search term*, copy and paste answer

After: Copy, click on intellisearch icon, click on where you want to search, copy and paste answer

I must be missing something...

Mike,

Is it possible to disable a licence and transfer it to another machine? I presume not.

@Chris. The link below has a comparison between version 3 and 5. All I can say is that I find version 5 a lot more user-friendly and I particularly like the Ad Hoc Plurisearch feature.

One click, not 4 or 5 Dec 8, 2015

Yes, you're missing several things.

One is customisable shortcut keys. That way you bypass the IWS interface altogether. For example, I have a IWS shortcut that takes me straight to the Oxford dictionary. In one click.

Another is group searches. You can set up IWS to search in several resources at once. In one click.

Clarification Dec 8, 2015

Sorry, I wasn't comparing the two versions but comparing this app with a standard browser search. I haven't heard of it before and I'm intrigued, but I'm not seeing any major benefits over searching using my browser and its bookmarks.

I should add perhaps that I don't use electronic dictionaries (due partly to my language pairs) or any form of MT.

Is that basically the USP then - searching web and dictionaries and MT in one hit rather than going from one to the other?... See more

Yes, that's pretty much it. It saves a lot of time and hassle. I use some sites such as Linguee (available in Swedish and Danish from what I can see) not so much as dictionaries but as a thesaurus, i.e. I might know the meaning of a word but want ideas on an alternative translation.

Interesting, I've never thought of electronic dictionaries as a form of MT but I suppose one could argue that they are.

Thanks for the info. I didn't actually claim electronic dictionaries are a form of MT, though they are undoubtedly cheating

No, I am afraid it isn't. But, as I wrote before, I am normally very understanding when the unforeseeable happens.
