The "very large cancellation fee" is "3 months of the subscription fee", ie. 30 euros, if I got it right.

Where we live, EUR 30 buys dinner for two in a good (not 'posh' but good) restaurant, including drinks and tips. If you get no bang for your buck, as is the case with GeoWorkz, EUR 30 is a lot.

The fee is also kind of deceptive. You buy a monthly subscription that is not really monthly because there is no way you can pay for just a month or two.

I find that the entire concept of having to pay to get jobs and that of job bidding completely twisted. It's like new-age meat auctioning.

What about paying for proz membership?

On proz you pay the intermediary, not the client. It is competely different.

account cancellation Jan 11, 2012

Hi all,

thank you a lot for your response. I got an answer from someone from GeoWorkz saying they had cancelled my account but I see it's still there. I assume they cannot charge my credit card without having its number... anyway, I'll prepare a written letter today.

Thanks again!

Anna

Is this their new or old term? Jul 31, 2014

Hi guys,

I received their email asking me my rate and to upgrade my profile including my banking details. Right after that I received another email about Geo and a Starter Plan saying the plan will expire after I complete 30,000 words within a given month for them. After I reach this threshold (30,000 words or a month?), I have to paid for it. Is this the new term or you also saw this term last time when they reach you?

I thought it is quite strange because usually they

I thought it is quite strange because usually they create such platform to have better organization and they already got their benefit from us working for them. Why now we have to pay them to work on that platform or to work for them? Working through a different platform tend to be a hindrance. Also, they ask me to work on medical but dont bother to ask about or look at my profile.

no more GeoWorkz Jul 31, 2014

Hi,

I think they had this kind of term when I registered on their page. 30,000 words or a month, whatever comes first. But I may be wrong, because I managed to get out of the whole GeoWorkz thing and the only thing I can tell anyone is to do the same.

Thank you for reporting this! Aug 1, 2014

After checking some other topics about this platform and the outsourcer, I decided to not touch it. Luckly me having my dear colleguages or else I will be another victim.

They seem to be a big name advertised on Proz but like what I often found those with a pretty profile and drawing a lot of attention turned to be a bad experience and modest things always hold true value.

I know otherwise Aug 1, 2014

Hi, I got in touch with them a few weeks ago, and I also read their terms. A PM of the affiliated company told me that I can use the software for free until 30.000 words/month, which will probably be enough for a freelance translator/vendor. So as far as I know, you receive this limit at the beginning of each month, and you will not have to pay.

Your own work Aug 2, 2014

The 30,000 words proposal is only valid for the translations you do for your own clients. The number of words you translate for this particular translation provider itself don't count. You do not pay for the work you are doing for this company! You pay for using a CAT software you can also use for other clients + having access to the job boards.

As long as you don't use this formulae for your own clients, its remains limited to €10/month. For a professional translator, even a beginner, this must be doable.

The software itself (old Logoport + standalone xliff editor) is solid, never crashes and is auto-maintaining (which is a good point). But for myself, I do not use it anymore, because I cannot imagine my translations for other clients stored on the servers of a special translation company (even if it has highly secured sections etc. etc., it's just a principle). I bought Studio and maintain my own TMs and glossaries .

Log in? Dec 16, 2015

I want to help a CafeTran user who wants to translate a GeoWorkz file:

http://www.proz.com/forum/cafetran_support/295858-xlz.html

I've created a GeoWorkz account, entered all kind of information, created a log in name and a password, and then: the password isn't recognised.

Any suggestions?

They use a scheme similar to those used by the porn and gambling industries: you provide your credit card number and if you don't cancel your account within a predefined period, fees will be withdrawn from your account automatically.

Isn't it nice, when a translation company has business practices that put it in the same league as the porn & gambling industry

I provided my Paypal data. Let me see how I can cancel this.

FWIW, I was able to create a trial account last May, for the purpose of recording the following two videos:

http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2015/05/18/how-to-set-up-translation-workspace/

http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2015/05/18/how-to-translate-in-translation-workspace-xliff-editor/

I was also able to cancel my trial subscription just before the 30-day trial period expired.

If you have forgotten your credentials (eg. password or "tenancy"), you can recover these via the provided link.

Strangely enough, my account is still operational, seven months after my trial expired: I was able to log in using the same credentials as during the trial. Let’s hope they don’t interpret this as a wish to join their wonderful "market place"

Anyway, I still have a copy of the installer for their XLIFF editor I downloaded last May. I can make it available to you if it can be of any help for your purpose.

Thanks for your help! I must have gone blind yesterday and didn't see the 'Tenancy' label. I apologise for that mistake!

Cancellation is set for January 16 now. All fine!

I just watched your videos. Most helpful! Thanks.
