hi all,
I just ordered a free trial of GeoWorkz and I find it's the worst, the least intuitive, the most complicated tool I've ever used! Actually I wasn't able to use it at all, in spite of so many pretty words it's advertised with!

After creating an account, I started browsing for jobs; the info on them is very limited (only the word count and field which is, in most cases, not specified anyway). I tried to bid but I got the message with two buttons: "close" and something

hi all,
I just ordered a free trial of GeoWorkz and I find it's the worst, the least intuitive, the most complicated tool I've ever used! Actually I wasn't able to use it at all, in spite of so many pretty words it's advertised with!

After creating an account, I started browsing for jobs; the info on them is very limited (only the word count and field which is, in most cases, not specified anyway). I tried to bid but I got the message with two buttons: "close" and something like "create directory profile". When I clicked on the latter I was sent back to the login page (although I WAS logged in). The same thing happened when I tried to create my profile via Directories/My profile. So I went to the support page to ask for support. I was sent back to the login page again! In all the cases of being sent to the login page, the system does not even recognise my login data.

My first contact with this service is highly disappointing and I decided to publish this post here, as I haven't been able to contact GeoWorkz team via their website.

be careful with the free trial... you have to cancel it before it expires, otherwise you'll be billed for a number of months (seen in other threads)...

Cancel immediately Dec 20, 2011

If you don't cancel the trial yourself (and soon), they will charge your credit card a very large cancellation fee when your trial "expires".

So you were able to activate the free trial without providing credit card details?! I thought it was necessary.

You need to cancel "within the first month", not "immediately" Dec 20, 2011

Samuel Murray wrote:

They do say:
"If Translation Workspace is not right for you, just cancel your plan within the first month and pay nothing."
I think it is safe to assume Anna still has at least three weeks before she needs to cancel. I would not say it qualifies as "soon" or "immediately"

Samuel Murray wrote:

The "very large cancellation fee" is "3 months of the subscription fee", ie. 30 euros, if I got it right.

credit card Dec 21, 2011

when I saw the field for the credit card number, I thought "something must\ be wrong here, why provide the CC number if this is FREE", I didn't type it and logged out. So perhaps my registration is incomplete and this is why the functions are inactive: I'm sent back to the login page from virtually any place on the site. The bad thing is that I tried to cancel my account but the login and password are still valid so there's no way to find out whether the account has really been cancelled.

I sent a form to their tech support from the page but it's just an email form, I don't expect any answer...

Credit Card Dec 21, 2011

They use a scheme similar to those used by the porn and gambling industries: you provide your credit card number and if you don't cancel your account within a predefined period, fees will be withdrawn from your account automatically.

So perhaps my registration is incomplete and this is why the functions are inactive:

That's probably the reason.

To add a personal view of my own, I wouldn't pay anyone to get some work. This way of working seems to me.... uhm... unnatural.

Isn't it nice, when a translation company has business practices that put it in the same league as the porn & gambling industry

Hi Dominique,
not only that: I find that the entire concept of having to pay to get jobs and that of job bidding completely twisted. It's like new-age meat auctioning.

ProZ.com is different Dec 22, 2011

Oksana Zoria wrote:

At ProZ.com, the measure of exclusion of non-paying members from services is in my opinion quite balanced to the amount of value paying members get for their money. You don't have to pay to get jobs, and not paying does not unreasonably put you at a disadvantage. Most (all?) sections reserved for members can be accessed by non-members for a fee that is significantly less than the annual membership fee (I think). At ProZ.com you can cancel your membership at any time, and the money for the remaining months are simply paid back to you (minus a small admin fee). The free trial at ProZ.com does not turn into a 3-month paying trial without warning.

Registered letter with advice of receipt Jan 10, 2012

I endorse the advice to cancel your GeoWorkz free trial. Perhaps you should back your electronic and phone approaches by sending a registered letter with advice of receipt advising the GeoWorkz managers of your intention to withdraw from their scheme with immediate effect. In Roman-law countries such as France, this is "opposable", legal proof. Cumbersome, maybe, but unequivocal.

I think it's important to surround yourself with safeguards such as this, especially since what I hear about GeoWorkz from other sources is disturbing.

I hope you manage to extricate yourself without difficulty - and soon!

Happy New Year.

With kind regards,
