Posting two URLs with the comment "FYI" isn't much of a point, I'm afraid. Normally when forum moderators post additional URLs with no additional commentary except something like "FYI" it is to refer readers to similar discussions that contain useful comments of previous posters.

But thanks for the pointer. A bit of digging in past forums reveals that she started promoting her list in various forum threads (nine, by one count) on 10 February 2014 (most of those posts were deleted), so the list is at least that old.

Just sufficiently 'judicious' to convince me that my barge pole is too short!

list and CV fategue Oct 12, 2015

As a translation company, we are always on the lookout for new translators. I seem to spend my life reading translators CVs. The problem for many translation companies is the shear volume of CV spam they receive. There was a time when we received high quality CVs directly from translators, now I would say 90% plus of CVs received are either fake, or spam from mass generated lists.

My advice to translators, would be don't waste time and money on lists. Do use reputable sites like Proz to find good agencies, and be targetted in your emails.

There is a lot that translators can do to market themselves effectively, and I wouldn't put mass emailings to agencies anywhere on that list. here are a few suggestions:
1) Work on your online profiles, present a professional image on sites like Proz.
2) Spend time on your CV, ensure it is accurate, and compelling. Prove your identity, e.g. have direct links to your LinkedIn and Proz profiles, plus website if you have one. Title your CV helpfully, e.g. "Spanish to English Marketing Translator", not "Mike CV"
3) Protect your CV, send it as a none editable PDF, and make it available on Proz. - I personally filter out profiles which don't include a CV when searching for translators on Proz, I don't have the time to write to lots of translators eliciting CVs, when they can be instantly available on Proz.
4) Work hard on personal recommendation, I study carefully the WWA on Proz, and recommendations on other platforms like LinkedIn are also useful. As with anything, quality wins over quantity every time. 100 WWAs makes me suspicious, it doesn't look natural. On LinkedIn, the personal recommendations are the important ones, not the silly one click endorsements.

Thanks for views from the other side of the fence Oct 12, 2015

Thank you Mike, this is helpful.

Maybe I am missing something but somehow I haven't managed to filter agencies for language pair and specialist fields on Proz as I was able to do on another site?
