Dear colleagues,
I am a German translator who has been residing in the US for over 10 years. As a member of SCATIA and ProZ.com (9294) I will be sending you information about SCATIA’s activities in this forum.
The idea is to let you know what's going on and hopefully spark your interest. New members are always welcome
The Southern California Area Translators and Interpreters Association (SCATIA) is a non-profit organization of individuals and corporations engaged in the profession of providing translation, interpretation, and other language-related services. It was founded in 1976 and was awarded chapter status in the American Translators Association (ATA) in 1988.
All SCATIA meetings and events are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Events cover various topics of interest to translators and interpreters. SCATIA publishes a quarterly printed newsletter and an annual Membership Directory, which is distributed free of charge to its members and to businesses, organizations, translation agencies, and other consumers of translation services. In addition, SCATIA also sponsors the ATA accreditation exam held in July for the Southern California area.
Currently, SCATIA has about 300 members, but hopes to attract a lot more people by some exciting upcoming projects we have planned. I will keep you posted.
You can find more information and learn how to become a member by visiting the association’s website: www.scatia.org or for an overview, please see www.proz.com/translator_associations/108.

Good day.
Today is Thursday, July 29, 2004.
Nice to find this new forum in < proz.com >. Good work. Bravo.
Greetings to a colleague memember of SCATIA. I am in the Los Angeles chapter of SCATIA.
A few observations about SCTAIA for other visitors of this forum folow:
The periodic seminars and workshops which SCATIA conducts on weekends are very beneficial and convenient. Especially valuable and informative are the guest speakers and presentations by members who are experienced translators or interpreters. Their observations and insights as practitioners are real nuggets of gold.
Networking opportunities when attending SCATIA events are intrinsic and enjoyable features.
I am also a member, as are several other SCATIA memembers, of CHIA, a collateral professional association for healthcare interpreters.
SCATIA and CHIA have co-hosted several events together over the past year, IIRC.
Regards and thanks again to all parties for getting this forum established on < proz.com >.

Mitglied (2004) Deutsch > Englisch + ... | | SCATIA meeting: Sunday, August 8, 2004 in Venice (California ;-) | Aug 1, 2004 |
Dear Colleagues,
As you are planning your next week and weekend, mark your calendar: The next SCATIA meeting will take place next Sunday, August 8, at 10:00 AM at the famous Rose Café in Venice.
The address is 220 Rose Avenue, on the corner of Main and Rose*, If you are brave, you can even take the bus: #33 (from downtown, e.g. Union Station, bus bay #6) will drop you off right at the corner. The meeting does not only provide a good opportunity for networking, but also a chance to meet some nice people and learn more about SCATIA's new projects.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Kind regards,
Karin
