Hello All,

I have this issue in WF Pro 4 with Polish special characters, namely "ś", "ź" and "ć". They are entered as a combination of right Alt+relevant letter (x in the case of "ź").

However, it does not work in WF 4 - these combinations are bound to system shortcuts (Save To, Copyright mark...).

In WF 3 a simple workaround was to change shortcuts in Preferences - but now this is blocked (these particular shortcuts are "reserved for a fixed shortcut

In WF 3 a simple workaround was to change shortcuts in Preferences - but now this is blocked (these particular shortcuts are "reserved for a fixed shortcut and cannot be changed".

Any idea how to solve this - without typing character codes, which is useless?

Thanks in advance,
MattM

Well, I had a moment's genius...

1. Export your key bindings to a file (in Advanced Settings).
2. Edit the file with Notepad, searching for all instances of the shortcut you want to unbind/change (here: Ctrl+Alt+S/X/C respectively).
3. Change the value found to "noValue".
4. Save.
5. Import settings (in Advanced Settings).
6. Enjoy!

If anyone has other ideas, less "take that club and hit'em software hard" in approach, I will be glad to hear

Thanks Matt,

That's a brilliant idea! Can you send me the settings file so I can post it to our wiki for other users? Or post a link to it in this forum would be great as well.

Furthermore, there are development tickets to resolve Polish character conflicts.

Best,

John

Polish special characters Aug 27, 2016

In South Africa we teach our Wordfast Classic students to use Alt+ keys on the numerical keyboard, with the NumLock on. Maybe this will help you as well. The codes for your Polish special characters are:
Ą Alt 260
ą Alt 261
Ę Alt 280
ę Alt 281
Ó Alt 0211
ó Alt 0243
Ć Alt 262

Ń Alt 323

Ś Alt 346

Alt+numbers is good only for rare occasions Aug 27, 2016

Esme,

Thank you - the list might be useful for some rare-occasion users - but in practice it's hard to use this method when you have such characters every second word...

I am using Wordfast Pro 5 now and still have the same issue...
The above pref file is not recognized by the software.
Do you guys have another solution?
