Japanese term or phrase: XX
This is from a document on establishing internal control systems within a company (the company has many subsidiaries and divisions).

What do you think they mean by XX部門をヒアリングした in this context? This is not a legal document, and there is nothing anywhere about any legal hearings, so I don't think it's that. Does it just mean 'as a result of talking to the XX division'?

Explanation:
ヒアリング is the katakana for "hearing" which is what we would say in a legal situation in English (i.e. "Senate hearing"), but what they mean in Japanese is simply "meeting."

agree  Can Altinbay: My understanding is that it's a "hearing" in the sense that they probe XX dept. with lots of questions and gather lots of information. I see it a lot when investment firms talk to firms they invest in.
