This is US English. The sentence is:
This search is based off of the requisition
Several sentences are similar (ending in "...of the *)

I am not happy with the explanations I have found so far in the ProZ.com termbase, seems that many opt for a 'typing error' which I'm sure it's not.

I would like the help from a native US English speaker to explain whether "based off of" just means "based on". If so, why don't they just write that? ;-)
