Erklärung:
en fait "canon":

"Cannon is an English name and was a canon or clergyman on the staff of a cathedral or important church. Sometimes the name is derived from the fact that the original bearer was the canon's servant."

"canon (priest)
A canon is a member of the Christian clergy who was responsible for administering a cathedral or collegiate church. It is still used as a largely honorary title in many dioceses to senior parish priests. This is usually awarded as a recognition of long and dedicated service to the Diocese. These priests are entitled to call themselves Canon and still have a role in the administration of the cathedral. The term originates from the time of the reformation when Catherdrals' bells were removed. The priest would therefore have to fire a canon to call people to the services.

canon English only

Erklärung:
Originally Canons were clergymen, including not only priests but also deacons and others in pre-Reformation "minor orders" such as sub-deacon, lector, acolyte, etc., living together in a clergyhouse according to church rules or "canons," another of the 14 other meanings of the word.

Since the Reformation of the 1500s, most canons have been married clergy mainly in connection with cathedral churches.

The title of canon also provides the opportunity for the diocesan bishop to name with a title clergy for long service or unique and dedicated work. There is no restriction now to the appointment of women.

The title is the Reverend Canon. In a few cathedrals, lay canons have been appointed as a mark of honour and thanks.
