English term or phrase: stub core
Bei meinem Maschinenhandbuch, das ich gerade übersetze, kommt "stub core", was ich aber bisher noch nirgend gefunden habe:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Have any moving parts been painted, actuator plunger, magnetic mating surfaces, plunger, stub core, pole piece, ect.

- NOTE! When re-installing pin, make sure that the cotter pins are bent completely around the plunger pin and do not hit the solenoid frame, preventing the plunger from rising all the way to the stub core within the solenoid.

- Replace new coil. ("DC" unit) Make sure end of coil marked Top is on the top end of solenoid stub core and reconnect marked leads as noted before.

- Reverse above steps to reassemble unit, using new plunger guides if warped or cracked. Be sure they are fully in place to allow the plunger to slide freely. The (4) bolts are to be equally and fully tightened to prevent misalignment Before replacing solenoid housing, lift plunger up and down in solenoid to assure freeness of operation.
Note: Examine the plunger rod and bushing to assure there is no reason for it to bind, and that there is a coating of anti-seize compound, such as "Never-Seez" on the traveled portion of the rod. Also, when re-inserting the glastic plunger guides, make sure the guides have about 1/64" freedom of movement lengthwise and widthwise to allow for temperature expansion. If not, file the guide where it is notched out, accordingly. Also, before reassembly, examine the "mating" surfaces of the plunger and stub core to insure that they are free of foreign matter such as dirt, rust, paint, etc. If not, emery or wire brush the surfaces clean and smooth. Do Not paint the plunger or stub core under any circumstances as this can lead to the unit binding. This coil is equipped with a thermal cut-off designed to interrupt the circuit at 192° C. This is to prevent a "melt-down" of the coil within the unit, which could render it useless. (For "DC" unit) Check that the cut-out switch is actuating, properly and that nothing is interferes with the plunger, preventing it from rising completely to meet the stub core.

kernstumpf (der magnetspule)
Explanation:
From the description, it's my guess that the actuator solenoid core consists of a fixed part (stub) and the moving part (plunger).

Due to the lack of hits for "core stub" + solenoid, I have no qualms about suggesting 'Kernstumpf', as it fulfills the purpose just as well as the English term.
