Body extensions
I interpreted the topic „coding and decoding reality“ in a very physical way. By defining/decoding my own body as tangible reality, I found my starting point. After this „external anatomy“ research, I followed a trial and error path of experimenting with shapes, places and materials. The results are my way of recoding the interaction between the human body and daily life‘s artifacts.
I made volumes you can wear as „body extensions“. The human body was used as a mould to come to 3d organ-like shapes. By holding condoms filled with plaster on different places, I got a wide variety of shapes. These shapes match the outside of the body perfectly. Different kinds of techniques are used to come to the final shell-parts. I pressed wet felt and leather between double-sided moulds. I used the plaster shapes as well as their moulds to vacuum-form polystyrene on. I did experiments with putting different self-adhesive materials on the polystyrene, before and after vacuum-forming it. This made me come to external body add-ons, which demand to be cared for and cherished as the body itself. In this way I try to make the user more bonded to the product.
Buon lavoro!
