Sounds easy of course... but seems to be a grey area with scope for debate.

I just want to know what you would call the editor of a magazine - the person in charge of deciding editorial content, who comissions features etc. the person who write's the foreword at the start of a magazine.

I know it is not editore.

Suggestions please?????

Erklärung:
usually the one in charge for the editorial content and such fro a magazine is the "direttore".

Curatore is usually the editor of a book.

decides editorial content, commissions features and writes the foreword, which, a DSaint pointed out is called "editoriale"

Fragesteller: this is what i was leaning towards. but to convince myself, i'd really like to know what functions normally come within a 'direttore's' job description.... can you elaborate?

quello che definisci tu dovrebbe essere "editor in chief", vi sono poi altre figure professionali definite in qualche modo con "editore", ma non hanno potere decisionale sul contenuto della pubblicazione.

I think that "Direttore" would be not enough. You should specify "Direttore Responsabile", "Direttore Editoriale", etc.

  -> Grazie Manfred. Infatti, "Direttore" non e' sufficiente, ed in questo caso - a meno che non si usi "editor" in originale, le mansioni indicate da Daniel sono quelle svolte dal "Direttore Responsabile". Ciao!
