In the world of printing, the word "backup" does not refer only to "making a copy for safe-keeping". In printing, back-up refers to the alignment of the printed material on the front and back of the piece of paper coming out of the printing press. When film was used to make printing plates, you could just put the two pieces of film together, too how the printed material on the front of the press-sheet would line up with the material printed on the back of the sheet. With computer-to-plate that is not possible, so this application was written to allow someone to check the front-and-back registration of the printed material on the computer. Back-up in this case is probably printing jargon, so may vary in its use in each country. Asking the question about "back-up and registration of press-sheets" would probably give the translators the correct context when asking a printer about virtual proofing (...)
