The context, specially the time (late 30´s), suggests that the expression is not related to on-site mounting, but rather with individual pieces of furniture, sold as ready-made items.

One last suggestion. It should be clear by now that you won´t find a single Portuguese word or expression that matches 'case goods'. So, if no deeper specification is needed, I think that you should simply use the term "móveis", that fits the context. Some information is lost, of course, but I think this solution is less awkward than the ones we have proposed up to now. |

Erklärung:
Realmente um termo difÃcil, pois engloba todo e qualquer tipo de mobiliário para "guardar" objetos, alimentos, etc.
Talvez algo como
mobiliário/móveis para guardar, estocar e/ou armazenar objetos e/ou produtos (isto incluiria armários de cozinha, escrivaninhas com gavetas, etc.)
No fundo, estamos falando de guarda-volumes, de maior ou menor porte. Talvez móveis tipo "guarda-volumes"?
