Balley Brandenburg - Centrepoint of the Order
The Balley is the centrepoint of the Order, around which are structured the societies and Kommenden (prebends) with their accompanying facilities and the various branches (Werke) within the Order.
Together, all these parts form a complete entity. From the Balley flow the impulses that impregnate the Order and itґs facitities and branches. Within the Balley lie the leadership structures of the Order: der Herrenmeister, the Kapitel (chapter) and the Orderґs executive committee.
The Balley and itґs German associations are a part of the protestant church in Germany according to the warrant of the German Evangelischen Kirche, issued May 2, 1947.
Legal identity/ name and trademark
The Balley of Brandenburg within the Knightly Hospitaler Order of St. John of Jerusalem - the Johanniterorden - was reintroduced in October 15, 1852 as the protestant branch of the old Johanniterordens by King Friedrich-Wilhelm IV of Prussia through the national sovereignty bestoes upon him and recognised by the "Westfдlischen Frieden" (Peace Treaty of Westphalia). Through the same decree, the Johanniter was awarded corporation rights (as announced in the Prussian Statue Book Nr. 1, January 15, 1853).
The still valid laws the society as created under the old rights exist in the edition of 27.6.1993, approved by the presidents of the regional gevernment in Cologne 20.8.1993 (15.2.2-16/62) and from the federal president of the Federal Republic of Germany through the "Enactment over the approval of the new edition of the statutes of the Johanniterordens" of 19.04.1994 (Bundesgesetzblatt 1994, S.954)
The name of the Balley, the name "Johanniterorden", the description "Die Johanniter" and the circle with the eight-point cross are internationally protected."
