Übersetzungen Englisch > Spanisch [PRO] Social Sciences - Folklore / vintner's bush | | Englisch Begriff oder Satz: Shakespeare: good wine needs no bush | This refers to the bundle of ivy, branches or straw that vintners hang in front of their homes to advertise the sale of their own wines. The custom is over 2,000 years old. I have an academic article that says this custom is still practiced in Spain, but I have no idea what it is called. If it helps, the vintner's bush is called bouchon in French and Weinzeiger in English, and the restaurants that the vinters run are called Heruige, Buschenschank, Besenwirtschaft or Strausswirtschaft in German, frasca or fraschette in Italian and osmica in Slovenian.
I'd be grateful for any tips if anyone is familiar with the custom in Spain. Please answer in English. |
| | Notiz(en) an den/des Fragesteller(s)Henry Hinds: 4:56pm Feb 19, 2008: I have my own saying on that, invented by myself: "Buen vino aunque de tome a pico de botella". While it's not what your looking for, it's in the same spirit. Meaning: "Good wine even if drunk straight from the bottle", which I have done now and then. Henry Hinds: 4:58pm Feb 19, 2008: "Buen vino aunque SE tome a pico de botella". Made a typo. I like it anyway, both the saying and the wine. Lydia De Jorge: 5:50pm Feb 19, 2008: Basically what it means is that good wine does not need to be advertised. Ann Marie Ackermann, JD: 8:11pm Feb 19, 2008: To clarify: what I'm looking for is the name of the bundle of foliage, as used in this folklore custom, and not for advertising or propaganda in general. Lydia De Jorge: 8:14pm Feb 19, 2008: QUERÉIS INSERTAR NUEVOS REFRANES?

| Hinweis von Fragesteller an den AntwortendenSince I needed a literal, and not figurative, translation, this one fits best. Diego, if you ever come to Germany, please look me up and I will treat you to a beer (or a good wine with or without a bush) to toast you and say thank you for your help on this one. 4 KudoZ-Punkte wurden für diese Antwort vergeben |
