En análisis técnico, un basing pattern o base pattern se determina cuando un título o activo cotiza dentro de un rango estrecho durante un periodo prolongado. Es decir, cuando observa una tendencia lateral durante suficiente tiempo para que ésta pueda identificarse como su tendencia principal. De allí que en el contexto de esta cita me parece conveniente añadir "prolongada" al término de “tendencia lateral”.
