Französisch Begriff oder Satz:agriculture d’assurance
From a text on farming practices:
Concernant la protection des plantes nous sommes passés d’une agriculture d’assurance (le programme des traitements était préparé en hiver) à une agriculture qui non seulement raisonne et optimise chaque intervention mais également à une agriculture qui intègre la sensibilité des variétés aux maladies et la place de la culture dans la rotation.
I understand what the text is getting at but wondered if there was a specific/accepted term for this kind of farming.
Erklärung: That's what I would call it. I don't think "agriculture d'assurance" is a widely used term. I have never heard it and it IS explained in brackets in your text. There may be a better, more specific term, which is why I put a low confidence level, but... faute de mieux, pour l'instant... I think it does keep the idea of old-fashioned practices and doing things the way they have been done for years - playing safe as opposed to trying new ideas.
You could also say 'conservative farming practices' or 'strategies'.
Thank you - I heard back from my client that this was actually 'preventive' farming in the sense that pesticide treatments were carried out before there was a pest problem regardless. I think 'conservative' or 'traditional' is in line with that idea as well. 4 KudoZ-Punkte wurden für diese Antwort vergeben

Ok, Michelle, that does sound more precise and in keeping with the French term. Thank you - it's good to know!
