While "attic" IS the term used in classical architecture for the last storey of a building, generally set back from the walls below, and its wall could, if the "attic" is not roofed, be an "acrotère", I would advise against the word, particularly because in the modern sense, an "attic" is a roofed space at the top of a building, and therefore its wall is not an "acrotère". When attics have low outer walls (often about a metre high) and sloping roofs, the walls are called "ashlaring": A low wall, usually about 1 m high, in the side of an attic, from the floor to part way up the sloping ceiling, often in blockwork" [Scott/Penguin]. |
