Economic activity is traditionally divided into primary, secondary and tertiary.
Primary = agriculture and extraction of raw materials (mining etc.)
Secondary = the conversion of raw mats into finished product, i.e. a fancy way of saying "manufacturing"
tertiary = activity producing nothing tangible (e.g. services)

The description in my original answer was vaguely remembered from Economics studies over 20 years ago - clearly the tertiary definition needs work - after all, I guess we're tertiary and we certainly produce tangible stuff, so p'raps I'd safest stick with "services" and not be a smart-**** :-)
Anyway, basically means they can do anything on that land except farming, logging, mining, quarrying and the like :-) |
