Marketing - Kosmetik, Schönheitspflege / skin care
Französisch Begriff oder Satz: actifs modelisés
Regarding a new skin care concept:

Au coeur de nos laboratoires de recherche une quete permanente pour identifier **les actifs, modelisés ou non,** qui seront reconnus et utilisés par les cellules cutanées pour un bénéfice sur le fonctionnement de la peau. Les actifs, acceptés et reconnus par les cellules de la peau, sont utilisés dans le métabolisme pour améliorer son fonctionnement et/ou rétablir une défaillance.

Modelized active agents just doesn't mean anything to me. Translation and/or explanation of what is going on here would be oh-so helpful :-) Thanks in advance.

French Foodie (asker): 12:47pm Dec 20, 2004: Hi Anna, thanks for your help, but I'm wondering, wouldn't your answer be more along the lines of "actifs modélisants"? I get the impression that the actifs are what are moulded, not what are doing the moulding...
Anna Maria Augustin: 12:55pm Dec 20, 2004: No, I don't think so. I've worked in the cosmetics industry and it's definitely what the product contains that will do the shaping - often used in plastic surgery too. But there are so many products on the market that do this. Good luck! -
French Foodie (asker): 1:02pm Dec 20, 2004: Hi Jane! Yes, now that you and Charlotte have gotten me on track with the meaning, the trick is to figure out how to say it without being off-putting. That's probably why the French went with modelisé as opposed to synthétisé...
Charlotte Allen: 2:13pm Dec 20, 2004: 'Synthesized' (or -sised for a UK market) sounds slightly better than synthetic. -
French Foodie (asker): 5:18pm Dec 20, 2004: Jane! Brilliant! I searched for modeled but didn't come across anything, but of course coupled with *active ingredients* you find all sorts of things on molecular modeling. Big thanks for great research. Cheers, Mara

active elements, whether created in the laboratory or not...

Erklärung:
I wonder whether what they're getting at is 'actifs' which have been 'modelled' in a laboratory, i.e. they are copies of natural elements found to be of benefit to the skin, which are then recreated in the lab synthetically. But I'm really just guessing.

A concise way of expressing the above would be \'natural or synthetic\', although \'synthetic\' might not go down too well in the context!

Sorry, I just reread your post - \'active agents\' is better than \'active elements\'.

And Jane\'s \'active ingredients\' is, of course, better than either...
