Utilisé dans une preparation à base d'huile d'olive - il s'agit d'une variété, mais est-ce que quelqu'un sait ce que c'est en anglais?!!

Katherine Mérignac (asker): 6:28am Jun 7, 2005: I know that all of these varieties exist, but I can't decide which one is the right one. There obviously is an equivalent, but it doesn't seem fair to choose one above the others without some kind of indisputable proof. Sorry. If I find out what it is I'll come back to retify the situation !

large leaved basil

as opposed to the small leaved one seen a lot in Greece, etc.

Sorry, I thought I\'d added a further note with more references and stuff - obviously I didn\'t, and can\'t find them just st the moment. Sweet green basil (Latin name Ocimum basilicum) is a synonym for what I\'d usually just call basil, there are several other names for it, including sweet basil, large leaved basil; there are quite a few varieties of it including purple-leaved, lettuce-leaved (with extra large ruffled-edged leaves - I don\'t think it\'s that one here), anise basil, etc. - here are some of them: http://www.jekkasherbfarm.com/searchp.asp

sweet green basil

Erklärung:
Not one of my areas of expertise, but the website below indicates that "“Sweet Green” is the standard culinary basil."
But there are other varieties.
I suppose the "grand" could mean tall, so "tall green basil", but I don't think that sounds right.

lettuce-leaved basil

Erklärung:
This is what I've always grown from seed as the largest leaved basil - yum!

See:

... Lettuce-leaved Basil tastes like sweet Basil. Its leaves grow up to 7 inches
long and sometimes have a waffled texture; they are nice for lining salad ...
