Blessing of the Box
Erklärung:
I don't know if there is truly an equivalent in EN, but we still do this today, on Palm Sunday, everyone takes their sprigs of box to the Mass, where the priest sprinkles them with Holy Water and blesses them, and then they are hung up over the entrance to your home, to protect everyone who crosses the threshold.

Zustimmung Bourth: Who would have guessed! And when holy water is sprinkled on the TV?/The first is the blessing of the palms; and we may have an idea of its ... are still employed in the blessing of our willow, box, or other branches www.intermirifica.org/lent/palmhist.htm

-> Thanks, Martin! Funny how times change meanings...

Neutraler Kommentar Manuel Malherbe: it's usually and mainly boxwood in France but in some parts rosemary or lavender are blessed, as are actual palms in some countries, so I think "blessing of the palms" would fit better

-> Yes, if you're looking for a cultural equiavlence, then yes, even in the UK it is 'palms' that are blessed; but we may need to translate it culturally 'in place'

Zustimmung Richard Benham: I would prefer to stick to what the French says, although maybe "boxwood" or "box sprigs" would clarify any confusion over the type of box concerned. Tony, do you think a few box twigs are adequate protection for anyone entering your lair?

-> Thanks, RB, that's the way i view it too! Oh, certainly not... not THAT kind of 'box', anyway! (our town actually uses tobacco)
