I know this is about Italian unification, (context here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risorgimento) but I don't know the term for this group. A-catholic? Acatholic? One of the times Google is hopeless...

I'm not a specialist of this period but from your quote it doesn't sound to me like the a-Catholiques are a specific group, just anyone who isn't a Catholic.
