This is the story about St Remi giving Clovis a flask of blessed wine and telling him to drink some everyday and to pursue his foes so long as there was still some left.

The other lines I was going to translate as:

A barrel of wine did prepare for him
And declare that he would be victorious
So long as there remained wine within

xxxdf49f: 11:07pm Jan 26, 2005: why don't you use "notorious" for notoire (it even rhymes with victorious!) - its first meaning is not necessarily unfavorable - and it reflects perfectly the French (il fult notoire- it became well-known)
