Französisch Begriff oder Satz: Du fil à la pâte
Somebody with an eye for a pun has given this title to an exhibition about the development of a town's economic activity. As I understand it, the first activity was "drapery" and the second "pottery". But "From drapery to pottery" loses the "fun" element of the original title. My first thought was "from thread to bread", but that's the wrong kind of "pate". From cloth to clay? From loom to kiln? All suggestions gratefully received!

Josephine79: 10:30am Nov 8, 2006: Back to the drawing board.... - Thanks for your input , however, we need to re-think as I have had further info. from the client - all I had to go on was the title and it transpires that it's not a reference to the town's pottery industry, but to the fact that there was an important PASTA factory there until recently.... Unfortunately I still don't think that "from thread to bread" is going to fit. Any ideas?

From Needles to Noodles
Erklärung:
While I've switched from thread to needles, this suggestion does stay with the idea of the drapery industry and give you a play on words :-)

Neutraler Kommentar xlationhouse: I like the way it sounds, the only issue I can see is that taking something from loom to kiln burns it, since the "loomed" item is clearly flammable...

Erklärung:
Hello,

Here's my idea:

One stitches drapes

One kneads pasta dough

The town has gone from stitching to kneading. Get it?

I hope this helps.
