If I were allowed I would post this as a joint question with "adhèrent et assument" (which I am posting separately) as I would like to keep the symmetry of the two.

| emulates to impress

Hello,
This is hard one, for sure.
adhèrent - they emulate the rich
s'exposent = they like to display their clothing, cars or whatever
They emulate in order to impress others. It just doesn't make a lot of sense in English to say "emulates and displays." Imvho, I think the idea "s'exposent" would be best translated by impress (that's why they "s'exposent"). So, "impress" clearly implies the meaning of "display themselves)
