"ANALYSE EXPLICATIVE
Does it mean the model does not explain the variance? |

Helen Genevier: 5:50pm Nov 7, 2006: Hello David - Point taken :-) I was trying to keep it confidential but maybe I went too far! Score Y is a typo for score X (my mistake), which is their measure of "etat cutané", a composite that includes all sorts of scores about wrinkles, bad skin etc. The 2 groups are patients and controls (those asking for cosmetic treatment vs those visiting their doctor for another reason). The general aim of the study is to find out whether women who ask for cosmetic treatments actually have worse skin or just perceive it as worse. No "model" is explained in the text, and I understood it as some statistical way of saying "the hypothesis that skin condition is related to self-esteem", though I am not sure about that. Dr Sue Levy: 10:02pm Nov 8, 2006: The ANOVA *is* the model. Here the outcome/dependent variable to be "explained" is self-esteem, and the explanatory variables are the group (seeking treatment yes/no) and the skin condition score (composite variable - continuous/categorical?)
