"Opponent 8 a contesté les conclusions du breveté concernant le contenu et l'enseignement du document R'1 dans sa lettre du mai 2006 et a declaré dans sa missive du 10 juillet 2006 qu'il n'assiterait pas à la procédure orale"
I am not sure what the exact legal-jargon term equivalent is in english - I want to say "wording", as "teaching" sounds very odd.
Any specialists out there?

Yes, 'teachings' does sound odd, but it IS used in that way, sometimes. Perhaps it would be better to say:'....the contents of Document R1 and what it is intended should be learned therefrom'...which is a bit long-winded, but I think this is what is meant. I don't think 'wording' would do, because that is pretty much the same as the contents....
