One of my references says l'Université (capitalised) translates as the teaching profession, including university staff, schoolteachers and inspectors, or perhaps you could say "Academia" which I prefer personally as it keeps the idea of university professors rather than "teaching staff" which could of course refer to teachers at any school, not just university. |

I wouldn't use a capital in English. Unless anyone else has a better knowledge of Enlightenment terminology and can elucidate us!
