to me, exécutant implies that the person has no creative input - he/she converts someone's ideas into a digital form. so he/she is actually an expert in using PhotoShop, Illustrator or whatever.

In Collins Robert 'graphiste' is given as 'graphic designer and 'executante' as 'underling'. a bit unkind, I think- but I wonder if you could use just 'graphic designer' ....perhaps they mean that the brand manager etc will work with/alongside the graphic designer. I dont know why they have used 'executante' unless it is to suggest that he/she holds a lower position than the other two

for info, (without translation!!) there seems to be many versions, so maybe we need to look more closely at the differences:
Si vous êtes graphiste exécutant, vous relevez de l'URSSAF qui est l'organisme chargé de récupérer l'argent de la Sécurité Sociale. Si vous êtes graphiste auteur, vous relevez de la Maison des Artistes qui est une branche détachée de l'URSSAF et fait strictement la même chose, mais moins cher et uniquement pour les artistes-auteurs.
La Maison des Artistes accepte les artistes de certaines catégories de la branche des arts graphiques et plastiques : peinture, sculpture, dessin, gravure, fresques, céramiques et œuvres graphiques. Pour les graphistes, si votre travail comporte une part prédominante de création pure, il a de fortes chances d'entrer dans cette classification. Cependant, il est précisé "créations de graphistes concepteurs d'images destinées à transmettre un message visuel dans tous les domaines de la vie économique, sociale et culturelle". Par exemple, si vous réalisez la charte graphique d'un site, on ne vous reprochera pas de la mettre en page avec Dreamweaver … mais ne le criez pas trop haut, si vous voyez ce que je veux dire

Selon le domaine et la taille de l’entreprise, le maquettiste pourra être un simple exécutant ou un réel créateur. Dans la presse magazine par exemple, lors du lancement d’un nouveau support, il peut parfaitement choisir la typographie avec le directeur artistique et définir les différentes vignettes et logos illustrant les rubriques.

Fragesteller: I think this is what is implied, but the article does use the term 'maquettiste' for layout artist...
