M Lalevee (asker): 8:36am Nov 20, 2002: To save time next time - Thank you all for your suggestions - but I had already found out what "ektas" meant, as I said in my posting. I had already looked on LGDT, Google etc etc. All I need is what they are called in English. I am going to use "transparencies" as that seems to be the closest.

| | positives | Erklärung: Although I basically agree with David et all above, that this term is used to refer specifically to slides, I'd also like to endorse Francis' suggestion that an alternative term to use might be quite simply 'positives' --- this encompasses 'conventional' slides as well as various oother kinds of positive tranparency material sometimes encountered in the graphics world; this is the explanation why the term 'diapo' may not be being used here, which usually seems to refer to slides per se.
But it is definitely, without a shadow of any doubt, referring to a positive, transparency image! Come to think of it, 'transparency' would also be a valid term to use.
As far as I am aware, I have never come across the term 'ekta' itself being used in the UK --- too obviously close to the tardemark, I guess! But I stand to be corrected on this...
Prints would be more likely to be 'tirage[s] (sur papier)' |

Erklärung: <<Ektachrome (trademark) - A positive colour transparency film manufactured by the Eastman Kodak Company (very popular among professional photographers working in advertising).>>
[Dict. Bilingue de la Publicité et de la Communication, Duvillier & Grüber]
The French definition specifies that it is abbreviated to Ekta.
I suspect "Ekta" is used in French "generically".
