Übersetzungen Französisch > Englisch [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Druck und Satz, Verlagswesen | | Französisch Begriff oder Satz: côte | This is instructions for a machine which appears to cut paper.
"N est le nombre de coupe à la côte A à exécuter (sans repérage)."
I'm not sure whether "côte" isn't a mis-spelling for "cote"... but the document also contains the latter word several times, e.g. "Cote AC.", pointing to a register, for which I intend to ask a second question...
Anyway, "côte" in a printing context has a translation in GDT: "ribbing": it appears to be a paper fault. This doesn't appear to fit in the above phrase however.
If it *is* a mis-spelling, i.e. meant to be "cote", I find the following two explanations (without translation) in GDT, for a printing context:
1. "Fraction d'une copie répartie entre plusieurs compositeurs, opérateurs linotypistes, clavistes monotypistes ou opérateurs de photocomposeuses."
2. "Indications portées sur la copie et nécessaires à sa composition correcte."
Neither of these seem to fit. Would this then be "dimension", "distance", or some such? NB the text also contains "paramètres", which I have translated as "settings" (of the machine).
Anybody familiar with paper/printing technology?

| | dimension | Erklärung: Yes, I feel sure that it is a typo (very common!) for cote = dimension
It seems to me they are saying that the guillotine is set to a certain dimension, and then they want to know how many cuts can be performed at this size, before it needs to be reset — obviously, the fewer times you need to reset it, the more accurately the cuts will be the same size, and the less work is involved!
This is clearly being differentiated from cutting to marks, where you adjust the guillotine to cut on a specific printed mark, rather than setting it to a measured dimension. |
