The above is the title of a clause in the document. Under this title it reads: "Que l'origine de propriete soit trentenaire et ne revele aucune cause susceptible d'entrainer l'eviction de l'ACQUEREUR." I'm not at all sure of the correct legal translation of the title, but the underneath bit seems to me to be saying the nature or origin of the property is a 30 year lease and no reason is apparent to justify eviction of the purchaser." However, the purchaser has insisted that he is buying the freehold title to the land and there is no other mention in the rest of the contract of any lease agreement. Can some one with a knowledge of French property contracts please help ?

Alain Pommet: 7:14am Oct 18, 2007: Look up "origine de propriété": The purchaser basically has to make sure that the person he is buying from has all the rights to the property - and this has to be proved for the last 30 years. It is a freehold purchase.

origin of property is a good root of title. In Eng. /Aussie ? law, is defined in unregd. conveyancing as 1. no less than 15 years' old; 2. showing a continuous chain of ownership and 3. containing nothing to cast doubt on the title.

Covenant for further assurance: a beneficial owner covenant, inter alia, for good title and - if sthg. awry - to a further assurance to put that right cf. the Spanish expediente de dominio to fill in the missing, unregd. title links.
