Check around Thurs-Fri. Martin Cassell: 12:05pm Apr 14, 2007: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1859116 David West: 12:06pm Apr 14, 2007: Ah, ah somebody else on the Abbe Pierre trail! Rowan Morrell: 12:12pm Apr 14, 2007: I would go with the winning answer from that other question - "captured/fired our imagination". Najib Aloui: 1:16pm Apr 14, 2007: Perhaps a chance for a better answer! Richard Benham: 2:32pm Apr 14, 2007: I think that answer sucks! Martin Cassell: 2:42pm Apr 14, 2007: I agree with Najib and Richard, the earlier answer could certainly be improved upon. Najib Aloui: 3:42pm Apr 14, 2007: Some wording in English to say that the real person has been "grabbed" by collective representations (belonging to the realm of imagination) and given the status of a "mythical figure".... Najib Aloui: 7:41pm Apr 14, 2007: something like "...is now given place among our myths..." (?) David West: 10:02am Apr 15, 2007: Whom we all associated in our minds with that desire for good...? David West: 10:34am Apr 16, 2007: Hows about: Whom, in our minds, was synonymous with that desire for good that sometimes touches us with its heavenly wings...? Anna Maria Augustin: 10:41am Apr 16, 2007: Touches us ever so briefly. We're not talking about mythical angels but someone who spent his life radically fighting on behalf of the socially excluded, the poor, the homeless. David West: 10:51am Apr 16, 2007: Well, it's not Abbe Pierre who touches us, but the desire for good. When it does we 'think' of him. Anna Maria Augustin: 6:16pm Apr 21, 2007: Thank you Dave!

| | Who gave us a/the vision | Erklärung: At first thought - captured, as attached to our imagination/realm of fantasy might be too literal.

| who has become part of our collective unconscious
Erklärung: 'Imaginaire' is a hard one to translate to English. I've read books that refer to l'imaginaire; it's often used in the area of psychoanalysis, psychology. So, although my translation is not literal, I think it's close to how a native English speaker would best understand this expression. Also, given the status of l'Abbé Pierre in France, I don't think it's pushing it too far to say he's part of the modern French 'collective unconscious '...

"Abbé Pierre whose figure now lives/dwells in the realm/land of our highest/purest/heavenly dreams, our aspiration for Good"...Perhaps something along...
Sorry, Dave, for not having been able to provide a better proposal.
