Französisch Begriff oder Satz:reverend = minister? ( Church of England )
I have come across a mistake in a text I have to translate but can not find the actual position in the church of the man in question to double check by myself, so I'd like to have this cleared by someone knowing the Church of England well, please.
The man is addresses as Rev. XXXXX . But in my text is said to be a "pretre", Church of England. So is he a 'minister'? Or are there more than one position in the Church of England, meaning the religious will be addressed as such? A deacon too perhaps?

There are also other titles in the C of E such as deacon. A deacon is a lay person. This is not the case with your person, since the title reverend is used.

I disagree that minister is only used for Baptists etc. That is incorrect.

In other words, you might be a priest but not be a vicar....ie have a parish...
Erklärung: Is the usual term for a "priest" (or clergyman, to use a generic term), in the C of E (regular churchgoer - C of E - in my youth!)

FYI, Minister is more usually used for Methodists, Baptists and other protestant non-conformist (I think that\'s the term) members of the clergy. That said, if you used minister for the C of E, I don\'t think anyone would object. Conversely, you shouldn\'t call a Baptist minister a \'vicar\'

So, a \"high-up\" in the C of E is not usually just a \"Rev\", e.g a deacon is a \"Very Rev\" and a bishop is a \"Right Rev\". Hence your person is just a normal priest (or vicar!) as far as I can tell.

Erklärung: I'm not sure whether you want to translate reverend or pretre... As a title, Rev. will simply be Rev., whether Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, etc. (Just search Google for Anglican and Reverend), designating anyone ordained to the presbytery. For a term to include the episcopate, diaconate, and all the orders above and between (excluding readers) the proper term would be clergyman.
