Erklärung: There are lots of French CVs where someone is an AMN for 3-4 years prior to obtaining their doctorate. Could look at it in terms of some teaching/tutoring (and perhaps some research assistance)linked to work/specialisms of their supervisor.
The 2004 Petit Larousse has this as its 2nd defintion for moniteur/trice:
