More a glossary debate/contrib. than a qn - a pic. in a (chateau/lodge) museum brochure shows vaults converted into a museum space with statuary from the gardens outside. Caption: >>"Lapidarium" im Sockelgeschoß<< (their invtd commas, & I think I'll retain that). Have sorted out what a L. is - a coll. of statuary etc. (see the DE-Wikipedia for Lapidarium), with a strong Enlightenment-'Dilettante/Kunstkammer' trad., &/or highly scholarly REPOSITORY / depot (depends on contxt/ lang. level) for originals at a historic/archaeol. site, often the restoration workshop, v. oft. a minor exhibition space. .........-So much for the contribn, ANY MUSEUM CURATORS OUT THERE with a std. Eng term or terms? BTW, ProZ has an entry, but Croatian - Eng.: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1035021#2496888 (gd to have decisive NO to 'lapidary', the rest I fear beyond me, I don't spk Croatian). Apols for verbosity & THANKS for contribns.
Again, thank you, everyone. I've opted for Jonathan's **collection** - as a Lapidarium can but need not be a **museum** in its own right, and at its most modest, probably a coll. of **trivia**. Meanwhile, found a further succinct Ger. definition at BeyArs: http://www.beyars.com/kunstlexikon/lexikon_5354.html - a 'coll. of works in stone' ranging from statues to sarcophagi and milestones. 4 KudoZ-Punkte wurden für diese Antwort vergeben

Fragesteller: Thx again, Jonathan, for the ref. too.
Erklärung: This is from the website of the ancient abbey library of St. Gall in Switzerland, where stone carvings (building material and stuatues) are displayed. Perhaps it is helpful to you.
