I am not a translator, just the owner of the lithograph in question (which is indeed of a study of a woman's nude back). All translations provided seemed to be appropriate, but judging from the painting, Edith K's interpretation seemed most apt. Please send my thank you's and kind regards to all the translators. I am most appreciative of their time and efforts.

Tradesca and EdithK's comments are quite right, of course. The suggestion of "female back nude" is ok, but it sounds slightly clumsy to my ears. If you don't mind a longer text, then:

*Female Nude Seen from the Back*

could do the trick

Woman's back


Erklärung:
If this were a term, you would indeed say "female back (nude)" etc., BUT because this is a title, I think "Woman's back" might be more appropriate (although "female" is certainly an option as well). Degas, of course, solved the problem by chucking his model a towel and calling the painting "Baigneuse ...".

Also perhaps more appropriate given the late 19-century context (not sure whether English painters at that time referred to "female" or "nude" etc.)
