Deutsch Begriff oder Satz: Fettkörper
One of a long list of terms used in the cosmetics industry - I think it may be a component of skin cream. Sorry, that's all the context I've got!

TIA for your help, David.

Dr. David Willett: 9:41pm Mar 6, 2006: Thanks for your replies, but I have checked the glossary, and no, I'm sure this has got nothing to do with fat pads or bodies in this (cosmetics) context. Google for "Fettkörper Creme" (without inverted commas), and you'll see what I mean.

fatty body
Erklärung:
As much as fat pad is right in a medical context, IMHO it doesn't apply here. I'm not too sure about if fatty body is correct (thus the low confidence level), but it does get its fair share of Google hits and the link below leeds to a US-American patent about a cosmetic composition.

That is "le*a*ds" of course.

Fatty base might be another option as I reckon the "Fettkörper" is a fatty substance that acts as the base of the cosmetic composition, especially in the case of a cream or ointment.

Thank you all for the great response. I went for "fatty base" in the end since it's not intended as a marketing term - thanks, Ingo!

fat pad

Erklärung:
Or Hoffa's fat pad. This question was asked before but our KudoZ glossary isn't working properly because of the shift to unicode.

Erklärung:
might suit your context

There are a number of Googles in connection with cosmetics. I've often heard the terms "lipids" or "hydro-lipids".

Emulsifier

Erklärung:
Got to this suggestion by a rather roundabout route ably assisted by my better half.

One ingredient (see first ref) in this kind of stuff described as a "Fettkörper" is Glyceryl stearate. This chemical is described as an emulsifier in English skin stuff (see second ref).

emollient or oil

Erklärung:
Below are quotes from German and English sites explaining what
Ethylhexyl Stearate, which is a Fettkörper, is. The English websites define this component as "emollient or "oil".

Ethylhexyl Stearate (chem. Fettkörper der als Hautpflegemittel eingesetzt wird. Etwas umstritten, da er mit PVC-Weichmachern vergleichbar und schwer abbaubar ist)

Ethylhexyl Stearate
An emollient. Prevents water loss and has a softening and soothing effect on the skin.
http://rosaceacare.com/products/strlotion_desc.htm

"CEGESOFT® C-24, INCI: Ethylhexyl Palmitate, is a clear, slightly yellowish oil of mean polarity with a mean molecular weight. Due to the high spreading value the product is suitable for the application in cosmetic skin care preparations such as low -fatting emulsions and skin oils.
