Readership will have some knowledge of architecture but it's not an expert newspaper. xxxFrancis Lee: 3:00pm Apr 12, 2006: "Context" meaning: where will this translation appear? - Sonja Wesseler: 3:04pm Apr 12, 2006: As mentioned above: article in a paper for people interested in architecture and the history thereof. Henry Schroeder: 3:07pm Apr 12, 2006: Kondukteur/Konduktor may be being used im übertragenen Sinne. See this site: http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:mQnRyusXousJ:www.neurupp... - Sonja Wesseler: 3:11pm Apr 12, 2006: That's a good point, Henry. But what would Kondukteur be in English? Henry Schroeder: 3:15pm Apr 12, 2006: @Sonja - I'm too exhausted to try and figure out in what sense the author might be using it. Ann's answer is certainly a possibility. I think you will get more responses later. Good luck! - Sonja Wesseler: 3:23pm Apr 12, 2006: Nevermind Henry - I know what you're talking about :-)
Have a good evening! xxxFrancis Lee: 3:28pm Apr 12, 2006: Is this "newspaper article" translation to appear in e.g. a journal or what? - Sonja Wesseler: 3:30pm Apr 12, 2006: It's a paper (sorry, I don't know whether it will be a newspaper or a journal) that will be issued every 3 montsh and only to people who have subsribed for it (you can't buy it in a shop or something). xxxFrancis Lee: 4:24pm Apr 12, 2006: "in a shop or something" meaning: in a shop etc. ? -

In your context I am assuming that Brasch was the contractor.
Here is another site that lists Baukondukteur as an occupation. There appears to be some overlap in terms for an occupation that involves overseeing.

Now that I have slept, my brain is capable of working again.
This is what I found:
zu Baukondukteur/or -
This suggests to me a role with a broader scope than what Ann proposed. Exactly how this role is described in English is the problem that you and, now, I are having.
In the context of this Prussian town there is nothing except various references to the Prussian Building Commission and people who oversaw its work. Brasch is hard to find in German or English.

My suggestion is based on an obscure Ohio-based that executes constructions projects. They offer these types of positions, which seem like they would work in your context.
