Personalwesen / Employment reference | | Deutsch Begriff oder Satz: Anlaufstelle | From a reference for an engineer. The problem is more about a snappy formulation in English than about the meaning, which is clear enough.
"Er bildete eine wichtige Anlaufstelle für viele Kollegen...".
I suppose you could say "for many colleagues, he was someone to turn to", or something like that. Any better suggestions? |

I note a lack of unanimity even among native speakers as to whether this term is used to refer to the guy's knowledge or his interpersonal skills. So I chose "reference" as it is fairly neutral but leaning towards the knowledge option. After all, the guy's an engineer, not someone in one of those touchy-feely professions.
