German term or phrase: Metallauslöschartefakt
Aus einem CT-Befund:

Kräftige ***Metallauslöschartefakte*** in Projektion auf den intrakraniellen Abschnitt der rechten ACI bzw. den anterioren Mediastrombereich.

I know that the patient has a stent in the internal carotid artery. So these artifacts are probably caused by the metal stent. But is there a proper English medical term for this??

Thanks!

metal artifact
Explanation:
I found several references using "CT metal artifact", one of them:

I would always try to distinguish "term" and "description / definition". That means, for this case, there is the term "metal artifact" used related to CT scans. (A description would be: "signal void / dropout and distortion near metal objects such as implants")

I would not try to *change* the English term so that it gets similar to the German (including "Auslöschung"), but leave it as "metal artifact". The target group of this CT report will know what it is, they don't need any explanation about the "Auslöschung".
